Gionee is a Chinese smartphone maker which was established in 2002 and is amongst the largest smartphone maker there now at present Gionee has spread its arms in Vietnam, India, Myanmar, and the Middle East. In India it has strong offline retail and after seeing the trend of online shopping, Gionee has started to put their products online too
On February 22, 2016 Gionee launched its s8 in Barcelona at 449 euros (33,000 INR) approx. Which have some unique features like dual WhatsApp and dual we chat operating from a single account and 3d touch, yes you heard it right same as on Apple devices now the s8 despite being Android shares many resemblances with the iPhones.
It is basically launched in 3 colors I.e. silver, gold and Rose gold
The s8 has the common metal finish at the back and flaunts the new Gionee symbol which resembles smiles, and had Gionee printed at the bottom. The camera is round with laser focus and flash on its right side, the flash is single tone at this price point also which is disappointing. The front of the smartphone carries a home button at the center with golden out-linings around the button which also acts as fingerprint sensor. The screen to body ratio is 72.2% approximately which is quite good. The smartphone has the dimensions (154.30 x 74.90 x 7.00) mm
The smartphone features a 5.5 inches full HD super amoled screen which has a pixel density of 401 PPI and has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 which provides crisp and clear display even in bright sunlight. For protection Gionee has used gorilla glass 4 which makes the display quite reflective
This smartphone boasts a lot of features on a serious note from 3d touch to 4g active on both Sims which is unique also. To start with the smartphone offers 3D touch like on the iPhone but here in this case it just works only in the menu section. The s8 is also claimed as slimmest 5.5 inch smartphone in the world .It has dual WhatsApp and dual we chat that means you can operate 2 WhatsApp and we chat accounts from one single mobile phone which is itself unique making it a strong case to take it into considering , . The S8 features dual sim in which both sim operate on 4g networks. Gionee skips on some key features like FM, NFC, infrared which even the low end and mid spec also have. The phone also features sensors like ambient light sensor, hydrometer, and proximity sensor.
The S8 has primary camera of 16 MP with an aperture of 1.8 which means low light pictures will not be clear and moreover has only single tone flash at a price point where it is essential to provide. The front camera is 5 MP and both of the camera have various modes such as PDAF, laser autofocus, OCR, SLOW MO, and face detection.
The performance tasks on s8 are carried by the outscore mediatak help p10 processor and graphics job is done by Mali T860 MP2. The smartphone has a 64 GB inbuilt memory which I think is more than sufficient with a massive 4 GB RAM to perform all the tasks smoothly and effectively.
Gionee does not have service center in all parts of the country and which might be a problem and a downside too for the sales. All over the phone is great but at 34,000 you have plenty of other options to from various big brands
